The DGCA began a special audit of airlines after its analysis of the spurt in mid-air snags indicated lapses. The shortcomings included “improper” diagnosis of defects, inadequate number of trained aircraft maintenance engineers to check, certify aircraft before take-off, and rising trend of releasing aircraft under “minimum equipment list” where a plane is allowed to fly subject if a non-critical component that isn't working, will be repaired or replaced in a certain time frame.
